Buying a farmhouse in Piedmont
How much does a farmhouse cost in Piedmont?
As a broad guide drawn from current listings, a cascina to renovate often costs €300–700 per m² (frequently €40,000–250,000 in total), while restored farmhouses tend to run €1,000–1,800 per m², with premium vineyard-view homes at €3,000 or more. Treat these as indications, not valuations.
What is the difference between a cascina, a casale and a rustico?
A cascina is the traditional Piedmontese farmhouse, usually with outbuildings around a courtyard. Casale is a general Italian word for a country house; rustico usually means a rural building, often to be restored or converted.
Are there tax incentives for renovating?
In 2026 Italy’s renovation bonuses give a deduction of 50% for a main home and 36% for second homes, on up to €96,000 per unit over ten years. They reduce Italian income tax, so they mainly help buyers who pay tax in Italy.
